SZA and Beyoncé Tie for Album of the Year at 2023 BET Awards

The 2023 BET Awards were held on Sunday night, and SZA and Beyoncé were the big winners, each taking home three awards. SZA won for album of the year (for her album SOS), female R&B/pop artist, and video of the year (for her song Kill Bill). Beyoncé won for album of the year (for her album Renaissance), viewer’s choice award, and BET Her award (for her song Break My Soul).

Other notable winners included Drake and 21 Savage, who won best group; Latto, who won best female hip-hop artist; and Kendrick Lamar, who won best male hip-hop artist. The night also featured performances by a number of top artists, including Beyoncé, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, and Chance the Rapper.

  • Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award: Maverick City Music & Kirk Franklin
  • BET Her Award: “Break My Soul” by Beyoncé
  • Best Movie:Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
  • Best Actor: Sterling K. Brown
  • Best Actress: Angela Bassett
  • Youngstars Award: Marsai Martin and Miles Brown
  • Sportswoman of the Year Award: Naomi Osaka
  • Sportsman of the Year Award: LeBron James
  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Busta Rhymes

The BET Awards are an annual awards show that celebrates the achievements of African Americans and other people of color in music, entertainment, sports, and other fields. The show was founded in 1999 and is currently hosted by Taraji P. Henson.
